While water cleaned off the outside of the bag easily, the padding on the back and the straps absorbed some water and needed to dry out for a while.Ĭomparisons and Conclusions The Cobra Pack is Booq's highest-end backpack model, and it should appeal to you if you need to carry a lot of gadgetry around. The paper didn't get wet, but the top inside lining of the main pocket did, and the bottoms of all of the interior pockets, including the padded laptop and tablet pockets, were noticeably damp. To check, I stuffed the pockets with absorbent brown paper and gave the pack a shower for 30 seconds, letting it stand in the collecting water. The Cobra Pack isn't entirely water resistant. It's a good idea, but at the same time: Good luck with that. Like other Booq bags, the Cobra Pack comes with a "Terralinq" tag, which lets you recover a lost bag if someone follows the instructions on the tag. I found that the separate tablet and laptop pockets meant I ended up opening the main compartment a lot less often than I did with other bags, keeping things very orderly. If you're a road warrior who frequently carries a tablet, laptop, and passport on short trips, the Cobra Pack will protect all of these devices comfortably. I had no problem stuffing the bag with rolled-up clothes for a weekend trip, or books and toys for a full day out with my daughter. But it's also bulky the bag doesn't compress like a more standard backpack. It's spectacularly comfortable, thanks to the generous back and shoulder padding. Performance I carried the Cobra Pack for two weeks with a range of loads. There's also a chest strap, two metal rings on the shoulder straps, and the aforementioned leather handle on top. A Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and a BlackBerry Passport were both slightly too wide to insert. They fit a Google Nexus 6 and an Apple iPhone 6 Plus without a case, or a Samsung Galaxy S6 or an Apple iPhone 6 with a slim case. You can nestle in a thick, older-generation iPad or a Microsoft Surface Pro in there just fine.īut wait! There's more! Each should strap sports a separate phone pocket. It did not, however, fit the tablet half of a Dell XPS 18, or the huge 18.4-inch MSI GT80 gaming laptop.īehind the laptop pocket is a separate tablet pocket, made to fit a 10-inch tablet. It also fits a range of 15.6-inch Windows laptops, including a Lenovo ThinkPad W550s and a chunky Origin EON 15-X. Booq says it fits up to a 17-inch Macbook Pro. Inside are four segregated sub-pockets: a mesh one near the top that's perfect for batteries, Wi-Fi hotspots, or a camera two holster-like ones below it and a slim pocket at the back that should contain documents, but it's located a little awkwardly under the overhang of the top of the bag, making it difficult to get the documents in and out.īehind the main pocket is a neoprene-lined laptop pocket with its own waterproof, vinyl zipper. The main pocket has a wraparound metal zipper. The zipper can feel a little rough on your hands when you're reaching into the bag, but it's certainly durable. On the front, there's a document pocket with a rugged, metal zipper. So Many Pockets The Cobra Pack is festooned with pockets. The straps are easily adjustable, and there's a leather handle on top to tote the pack around as well. The inside of the main pocket is a rich, orange-red with leather accents. All the zippers have leather pulls two of the zippers are metal. The backpack is all-black, fashioned mostly out of ballistic nylon.
